The FDA has officially declared NMN lawful for over-the-counter sales, a decision that was long overdue.
From the very beginning, it was clear that NMN should have been recognized as a safe dietary supplement. It’s a compound intrinsic to human biology with a strong safety profile. Unfortunately, certain commercial interests tried to restrict it for profit-driven reasons, with little regard for public health or consumer choice.
The journey to this point has been more than two years in the making.
In May 2022, the FDA initially acknowledged NMN as a dietary ingredient, but by November of that year, it abruptly reversed course, declaring NMN excluded under the drug preclusion clause. This led to a citizen petition filed by the Natural Products Association in early 2023, followed by a federal lawsuit in 2024 that pushed the issue into the courts. After months of legal pressure and mounting evidence that NMN had been lawfully marketed as a supplement since at least 2017, the FDA ultimately reversed its position on September 29, 2025, officially declaring NMN lawful for use in dietary supplements (NPA Press Release).
This was not without challenges for NOVOS.
The disruption was significant: we had to create a second website, were blocked from advertising on Google, and even faced the risk of losing our ability to process payments. At one point, our future was nearly compromised. Fortunately, through persistence and trusted connections, we were able to resolve critical obstacles and keep moving forward. I also personally traveled to Washington DC to advocate for change, lobbying members of Congress and supporting the NPA’s fight to ensure NMN remained available to consumers.

Now, the FDA’s decision is not only a victory for the industry but for consumers everywhere. It allows us to focus on what we set out to do from the beginning: raise awareness, reach more people, and deliver safe, science-backed products like NOVOS Boost, without unnecessary restrictions tying our hands behind our backs. I also talked a little more about this on my Instagram, where I shared additional thoughts on what this means for our community and the longevity field.
This is an important step forward, and we’re excited for what comes next.
